In our ongoing efforts to support those contributing to the caring profession, New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is hosting a free professional development evening focused on dementia care.

NZTC Health and Wellbeing students, their colleagues and other interested parties in the sector are welcome to join us for this professional development opportunity to support the healthcare community to gain insight into contemporary healthcare issues, and help keep up-to-date with changing practices in an ever-evolving sector.

“NZTC is committed to providing healthcare assistants with the knowledge and skills to excel in their roles. In hosting these professional development evenings, we hope to further support the caring profession by enabling healthcare assistants to provide the best care possible,” said NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.

The Health and Wellbeing Professional Development Evening is on Thursday 9 November from 5:30pm to 7:30pm and will feature Dementia Auckland Carer Education Programme Leader Maria Co as guest speaker.

During her presentation, Maria will share information about dementia’s signs and symptoms, the disease’s progression, and best practices in dementia care (including personal care, communication and de-escalation techniques), followed by a Q&A session.

Dementia care resources relevant to healthcare assistants will be shared and all attendees will receive a gift bag and certificate of attendance to showcase their professional development.

RSVP by emailing events@nztertiarycollege.ac.nz or register online at www.nztertiarycollege.ac.nz/events by Friday 3 November. Spaces are limited.
